Copyediting

books, read, learn

Remember all those grammar rules you learned in school? It’s okay if you don’t—I do!

While line editing addresses the style of the language, copyediting focuses on the mechanics. In this process, I’ll check for and correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. In addition, I’ll edit for consistency in basic formatting (fonts, sizes, headings, etc.) and ensure style consistency in spelling, capitalization, hyphenation, and numerals.

With my triple-pass method, the first read-through is to get familiar with the content, author’s style, and make mental notes of the scope of the edit. In the second read-through, I begin to make those corrections, add comments/suggestions, and flag anything I want to come back to. The third read-through is to finalize my  edits and comments and ensure I haven’t missed anything.

I’m always willing to go for a test drive! Before we jump into a full project together, I’m happy to do a sample edit of up to ten pages or 3,000 words for $50.
