A Community Spawns Friends
To piggyback on my last post, this seems like a good place to pause and give a big shiny-freaking-unicorn shout-out to my special writer group (totally spawned from the aforementioned writing community) because my own journey would not be happening without them.
Writing can be a lonely vocation, but it most certainly doesn’t have to be. And as with most endeavors in life, support and encouragement from fellow writers can be priceless. I’ve been so, so blessed to be a part of this special group of ladies over the past seven years. We’re scattered all over the globe, and while we may be at different stages in life or in writing, we’ve managed to cultivate a truly rare and beautiful thing. We do writing sprints, give feedback, help each other find that one stupid word we can’t think of, and cheer each other on. But the special thing is that this support has also bled into pretty much every other aspect of our individual lives, bonding us as FRIENDS.
This group has been a solid anchor for me—it’s so hard to cultivate and maintain friendships as a military spouse, a writer, and a work-from-home mom, so I love the fact that these ladies have been my consistency through three moves now. I cherish and love each and every one of them. My tribe.
❤️
I don’t know if our kind of group is common, but I do know that there is nothing to lose and everything to gain by actively going to find your people in a writing community. Join in. Interact. Be a friend/Make a friend. You won’t be sorry.
